Police in Gasabo District have asked the Taxi drivers to take their personal security, other road users and that of passengers seriously in their work.
The call was made on Monday by the district community liaisons officer (DCLO) chief inspector of police (CIP), Irène Umuhozali, flanked by the central region police spokesperson CIP Marie Goretti Umutesi while meeting about 120 taxi drivers operating in Gasabo district.
According to CIP Irène Umuhozali, although the Police are there to ensure safety, it is incumbent on members of the public to be extra vigilant and cautious in their homes and places of work.
CIP Umuhozali explained that the Police, all over the world, work hand-in-hand with the public to fight crime and so the Taxi drivers who usually move all corners of the city must also assist the Police by sharing information to the Police and also remain alert in identifying criminals.
“We want the taxi drivers and the general public to also support us in the fight against crimes. One way they can support is by being vigilant and security conscious in their environment.” CIP Umuhozali added.
CIP Umuhozali on her part urged commercial taxi drivers to embrace the use of Security Baton to secure the safety of their vehicles against potential theft.
She invited drivers to utilize the available communication channels provide by Rwanda National Police (RNP) to share information that may threaten the prevailing peace and security in the capital.
