Gasabo: Stolen electronics recovered

Police in Gasabo District have recovered household items including electronics that were stolen recently. 

The recovered items include computer laptops, sound systems as well as shoes and clothes. 

According to Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Emmanuel Kayigi, the Police spokesperson for the central region, the items were recovered, Thursday, from two people, who were also taken into custody. 

"The target operation was conducted with DASSO personnel following information about a theft ring in Rusororo Sector, Kabuga Cell, where the two suspects were arrested red-handed with the reportedly stolen electronics and other household items," CIP Kayigi said.

He thanked the residents that provided information that led to the recovery of the stolen equipment and to "bring the criminals to justice."

The suspect will be charged under section two, article 166 which states that “any person convicted of theft is liable to imprisonment for a term of not less than one year and not more than two years and a fine of not less than Rwf1 million and not more than Rwf2 million, community service in a period of six months or only one of these penalties

CIP Kayigi also said called for information sharing on people they suspect to be engaged in criminal activities.

He warned that the operations will continue targeting especially black the market where such stolen items are sold.
