Students of Riviera High School have been urged not to indulge in illegal acts like drug abuse.
Senior Supt. Urbain Mwiseneza, the Director of the anti-narcotics unit in Rwanda National Police, while speaking to students on July 11, explained them the types of illicit drugs used in Rwanda.
He outlined cannabis, miraa, kanyanga and other locally made illicit brew as major drugs registered in Rwanda.
He advised them to focus on their education to guide them to a better future.
"When you consume drugs, you will be limiting your chances of a better future because they cause mental problems," he noted.
He said drugs abuse also lures one into other bad malpractices like sexual acts leading to unwanted pregnancies for the case of girls, HIV infections and school drop out.
Daniel Manzi, one of the students thanked the RNP for the message to guide them to be important people in future.
Manzi appealed to all students to own the fight against the vice.
Michael Maasazi, the deputy headmaster of Riviera also lauded RNP for sensitizing and empowering Rwandans to ensure own security.
Through these awareness campaigns, he said, some of the students who were drug abusers stopped it and are also taking the forefront to fight it
