Police in Gasabo District is since November 3, holding one George Tumwesigye on suspicion of stealing Rwf500, 000.

Tumwesigye allegedly mugged one Elisa Ntawubonabyose and grabbed the money from him. 

The Central region Police spokesperson, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Emmanuel Kayigi, said while the victim was trying pay the motorcycle fare in Remera Sector, Rukiri II Cell, Amahoro Village, Tumwesigye forcefully grabbed bag containing the money and fled.

"The victim raised alarm, which caught the attention of residents and nearby police officers, who were on regular security patrol," CIP Kayigi said.

"Residents and Police officers quickly pursued and apprehended the suspected thief a few meters from the scene of crime," he added.

The suspect, he said, first feebly brushed off the accusation but he was searched and the money was recovered on him

CIP Kayigi commended the community policing gesture by the residents and called for continued partnership and information sharing on wrongdoers.
