Gasabo: Police warns against careless fire handling as one dies

One person died yesterday in a house fire accident that occurred at 2.00am in Kimihurura sector police central region spokesperson has said.

 Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Marie Gorett Umutesi said the fire is suspected to have been caused by fumable house paints placed in a cooking area.

The victim was identified as Rose Mutamuriza a 19-year-old woman, who worked as a housemaid.

CIP Mutesi hailed residents of Rugando sector, Gasange village who tried to put out the fire before police arrived.

According to eye witnesses the fire was caused by overcooked equipment suspected to be a saucepan which spread quickly getting contact with a color pain.

“overheat saucepan cause a fire very easily if the person cooking gets distracted and leaves cooking unattended and having  contact with flammable substances” noted CIP Umutesi.

She advised residents to desist from careless use of fire and never to bring fires near flammable materials.

She cited all patrol products as very easily combustible   substances.

She further called upon residents to always call police fire brigade as soon as fire outbreak is observed for quick actions.
