Police in Gasabo District arrested four people said to be behind series of cattle theft in Jali sector.
They are part of 18 people, who have been arrested in Jali sector in the past one month in connection with cattle theft, trafficking and circulation of narcotic drugs, and production of illicit brew.
Gasabo District Police Commander, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mathias Muhire, said that the four men together with other people still at large, allegedly stole three cows in Jali, slaughtered them in Jali forest and sold them to meat shops.
Separate operations in the past month conducted in Jali sector also seized 2,680 litres of locally produced illicit drinks, and quantities of cannabis.
Gasabo District Administrator, Bernard Bayasese, while addressing residents of Jali during the public destruction of the narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances on Tuesday, November 26, urged them to work with the Police and other security organs, to fight such high impact crimes, which have consequences on their families and children in particular.
He also reminded grassroots leaders of their responsibility to work closely with the residents and security organs to identify and respond to such security challenges.
The DPC, SSP Muhire, thanked the residents for their responsiveness and sharing information, which led to the arrest of suspected cattle thieves and drug dealers, and urged them to strengthen the spirit of community policing.
