Members of the Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing (RYVCP) in Gakenke District have been reminded to intensify strategies against crimes through increase awareness and information sharing on suspected criminals.
The call was made over the weekend by Chief Inspector of Police (CIP), Jean Berchmas Dusengimana, the Acting District Police Commander for Gakenke in a meeting with the youth held in Nemba Sector.
This was shortly after a joint communal exercise - Umuganda.
While commending the role of the young generation in anti-crime efforts, CIP Dusengimana challenged them to keep the focus and strive to ensure crime free societies by instilling values and positive change especially among their peers.
“As you reach out to residents for awareness campaigns, put emphasis on mobilizing the youth to refrain and fight abuse of illicit drugs, and to avoid engaging in any sort of criminal activities,” CIP Dusengimana said.
He further appealed to the youth to always make it a point to share quick information on anyone suspected to be involved in criminal offences.
“Timely information sharing in very important since it facilitates quick intervention and subsequent arrest of suspects before they finally succeed in their criminal plans,” he observed.
The coordinator of RYVCP in Gakenke, Thierry Sibomana, challenged his fellow members to refrain from any unlawful activity and set a good example to their fellow youth.
“We have to be characterized with values and ethics, residents should be able to see such qualities in us, and this is the only way to succeed in influencing such values in our fellow young generation,” said Sibomana.
