Gakenke: Motorcyclists warned against trafficking illicit drugs

Commercial motorcyclists in Gakenke District have been warned against indulging in drug related crimes and facilitating drug traffickers in particular.

The caution was issued on October 31, by Police following separate cases where some motorcyclists have been caught transporting illicit drugs.

At least illicit drugs worth over Rwf2 million were seized from different people including motorcyclists in the past few months.

While speaking to motorcyclists, Inspector of Police (IP) Justin Murenzi, the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO) of Gakenke, said that operations against such criminal acts will continue to bring to justice anyone involved.

He, however, commended some motorcyclists, who have made it a duty to report drug traffickers and criminals in general.

Felicien Cyubahiro, the executive secretary of Gakenke sector called upon residents to invest their money in legal ventures rather than wasting it in criminal acts that also leads them into prison.

Rwanda National Police has strengthened awareness and operations against drug related crimes, which has also paid off in mapping major routes, those involved as well as creation of anti-drug clubs in schools and in communities.
