Police in Gakenke District have recovered about 20 kilograms of minerals, which had been stolen from Mabago mining concession.
The concession located in Ruli Sector belong to Eprocomi Limited.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP), Alex Rugigana, the Northern region Police spokesperson, said that the mining company filed a complaint about minerals especially coltan, that had been stolen from their concessions.
“On June 20, Police in Ruli conducted an operation in response to complaint of illegal mining activities and theft of minerals. During the operations, four individuals were subsequently arrested,” said CIP Rugigana,
He identified the suspects as Froduard Hakuzimana, 24, Celestin Niyigena, 25, Egide Habineza, 28, and one only identified as Byishimo, 18.
He said the recovery and arrest of the suspects involved in the theft was the information from residents, who shared information with authorities about the suspects before conducting the successful operation.
CIP Rugigana said the operations against illegal mining and unlawful mineral trade will continue, and called upon the general public to continue sharing information on people engaged in such illegal activities.
