About 350 members of Community Policing Committees (CPCs) from Janja and Muzo sectors in Gakenke District were on May 20 given more skills in ensuring safety and security in the area.
The one-day exercise aimed at strengthening crime prevention strategies including detecting and reporting anything that can cause insecurity, in time.
Ignace Habumuremyi, Agronomist of Janja sector asked the CPCs to put into practice what they learnt to further prevent the crimes.
“The focus should now be prevention rather than dealing with the consequences,” he noted.
He also urged them to follow up the distribution and use of fertilizers adding that some people sell them and at times stolen from owners.
Assistant Inspector of Police Alexandre Mwezi emphasized on the importance of having security and the responsibility of everyone to keep law and order.
He also appealed to participants to also sensitize communities in their areas to fight crimes like consumption and trade of narcotics and illicit brew noting that the consequences affect everyone.
He asked them to always provide timely information so that those involved in crimes are arrested in time and crimes prevented.
Participants resolved to strengthen their efforts including providing timely information and community night patrols.
They also signed a performance contract with their respective sectors to combat crimes.
Batsitahe Jean Nepomucene of Muzo sector said they acquired more skills in crime prevention.
