Gakeke: Residents, Police repair bridge damaged by heavy rainfall

Police officers operating in Gakenke District were recently joined by residents in repairing a damaged bridge linking Mucaca and Buranga cells both in Nemba Sector that was recently damaged by heavy rainfall.

According to Gakenke District Police Commander (DPC) Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Jean Berchmans Dusengimana, the collaboration between the police and residents in repairing the bridge shows a respectful and professional coexistence that allows Police officers to provide real, hands-on support to the community beyond their daily duties.

“We endeavor to achieve a totally secure community with no threats whatsoever to their lives and this is why we have the mandate to ensure their safety in all aspects” he said.

He said the repaired bridge will facilitate easy transport in situations where police have to make quick interventions and also facilitate residents to easily trade among each other without transportation difficulties.

“We have cases reported to police where people fall in waterholes and loose lives we need to work together to eliminate such accidents” he said.

The Executive Secretary of Nemba Sector, Venuste Bizimana lauded the community and police for working together to repair the infrastructure.

He asked residents work with authorities to curb criminality and consumption of illicit drugs.
