Fresh call to vacate 'high risk zones'

Rwanda National Police (RNP) calls upon families still living in areas demarcated as “high risk zones” to relocate to safer zones to avoid loss of lives caused by landslides and other disasters.

In the last one week, a numbers of families have either been rendered homeless or affected in one way or another because of heavy downpour, strong with, floods and landslides.

Most the affected family are those that live in risky zones like hills, valleys, wetlands to mention but a few.

We have sometimes seen families that have perished due to these disaster sometimes which can be avoided.

A number of houses and crops have been destroyed. Most of those affected were residing in risky zones.

The government and districts in particular allocated areas where families living in high risks areas can relocate to. Some families have honoured this call while others still reside in

such dangerous areas. Lives of those still living in these areas are at risk.

The public are considered as the country’s wealth and loss of any life means loss of manpower and consequently wealth.

Rwanda National Police, therefore, appeals to those families that still live in the demarcated wetlands, hilly or other areas considered risky, abide by the country’s safety programmes, to relocate to safe zones.
