Fresh call to fight drug abuse as narcotic drugs are destroyed in Rubavu

Trade and consumption of narcotics and illicit brew is illegal and punishable under the Rwandan laws. It also harmful to health and fuels other crimes like theft, assault and leads to unwanted pregnancies and school drop-outs.

This is why fighting it through all means, jointly, is essential. Parents, teachers, local leaders, students and the community in general should double their effort and give no mercy to those involved, by reporting them to security organs.

On February 14, the Rwanda National Police (RNP) was joined by local leaders, students and the community in Rubavu District, destroyed over 400 kilogrammes of cannabis and more than 600 sachets of illicit liquor, which was seized in the last three months.

The exercise was also witnessed by an official from prosecution.
The Western Region Police Spokesperson, CSP Francis Gahima warned the youth against involving in drug-related crimes.

He warned of severe consequences to those that will be caught in it and appealed to students to concentrate on their studies.

He appealed to everyone to always provide information of those that could be involved in such illegal tendencies, to help combat the vice effectively.
