Fighting narcotic drugs: Two dealers arrested in Nyanza

Two suspected drug dealers were arrested by the Police in Nyanza District on Tuesday and handed them over to Rwanda Investigations Bureau (RIB).

Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Twizere Karekezi, the Police spokesperson for the Southern Province, confirmed that Jean Paul Twagirumukiza, 38, and Kalisa Girubuntu, 24, was arrested red-hand in Busasamana Sector.

“They were at the time smoking cannabis but they were also found with quantities of rolls of cannabis,” CIP Karekezi said.

“These two are suspected drug dealers and abusers whose names appear frequently on the list compiled based on information from local residents,” the spokesperson explained.

“This time, when residents saw them they immediately called the Police operating in Busasamana Sectors, and they were taken into custody with their exhibits,” he said.

Rwanda National Police (RNP) in partnership with other institutions have intensified awareness campaigns and operations against the vice, which continue to pay off in terms of information sharing on suspected dealers, routes used and abusers.

This has also helped to rehabilitate the young identified addicts, who are also given vocational skills to start income generating activities.
