The suspects are identified as Eric Uwimana arrested in Nyarugenge with 175 rolls of cannabis, 29-year old Isaie Niragire arrested in Shyogwe in Muhanga with 2200 pellets of the narcotic drug and Stephanie Musabyemariya, 21, apprehended in Kamonyi with 143 pellets of cannabis.
Police spokesperson for the Southern region, Chief Inspector of Police Andre Hakizimana said that they received credible information from area residents who knew the illegal dealings of the trio.
“We acted on that information and conducted targeted operations and arrested them red handed,” he said, thanking the role of the public in crime prevention and community policing in general.
“We are seeing a commendable role in this fight against drug abuse, and even other crimes, and it should send a warning to all those still involved in either selling or consuming drugs, that they will also be arrested,” said Hakizimana
He further appealed to the public to continue the spirit of community policing to fight drug abuse which he said besides being hazardous, they have also been identified to fuel other crimes like gender and domestic violence, family disputes while some student-drug users have dropped out of schools and indulge in other criminal activities.
