Students of Gakoro secondary school located in Gacaca Sector of Musanze District have formed two anti-crime clubs at part of their efforts to strengthen anti-crime awareness programmes in and around the school.
The anti-crime clubs; anti-illicit drugs and anti-GBV clubs were formed during a Police awareness campaign held at the school on September 11.
Inspector of Police (IP) Viateur Ntiyamira, District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO) while addressing the students and the school administration, thanked them for the ideal move to reinforce crime prevention measures, and pledged police support.
There are 144 anti-crime clubs in Musanze, formed in schools, motorcycle and bicycle cooperatives as well as youth volunteers.
At least each of the 68 cells of Musanze has an anti-crime club. Close to 2000 anti-crime clubs have been formed across the country.
The youth majority of whom students from Gakoro secondary school in Gacaca sector made the commitment on September 10, in Gakoro sector during a meeting with the district community liaison officer (DCLO) inspector of police (IP) Viateur Ntiyamira at a function to sensitize the public against lawlessness.
He said local authorities in conjunction with police are committed to continue sensitizing and educating young people against crime and empowering them to engage in crime-free activities to earn decent livings.
He further urged them to desist from indulging in premarital sex which results from unwanted pregnancies.
The DCLO also tutored the students on the modern day slavery – human trafficking – and urged them to always report anyone that approaches them with promises of good offers abroad or far from their homes, which is one way to lure them into slavery.
