Female Police Officers begin preparations for assessment tests

One hundred and sixty-six Rwanda National Police (RNP) female Officers on September 1, begun a twelve-day training at Police Headquarters in Kacyiru to prepare them for the forthcoming UN peacekeeping mission assessment tests.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Administration and Personnel, Juvenal Marizamunda , who officiated the opening commended the UN for providing highly skilled, knowledgeable, experienced trainers and facilitators to equip the officers with the skills in areas of  firearm ,driving and language proficiency.

“This is a special initiative to female police officers as well as a great opportunity for candidates to acquire skills that would enable them surpass different UN Peacekeeping mission tests,” he said.

DIGP Marizamunda urged these officers to make good use of the training to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills needed to pass the exams.
The Commissioner of Police Martin Lanyuy who is the head of the delegation said, “According to what we have seen, read and heard about RNP, we are convinced that the choice of your country to host this pilot phase is not a mistake, as many force contributing countries to peace have valuable lessons to learn from your policing tradition in terms of discipline and continuous search for excellence”.

“The training aims to familiarize and equip knowledge to officers to be successful in the Assessment for the Mission Services (AMS)”, Lanyuy said
UN targets to raise the number of female Police Officers in peace keeping missions to 20% by the end of 2014, he added.

The training is being conducted by a team of ten trainers and facilitators from the United Nations’ Department of Peace Keeping Operations (DPKO) .
