Police in Kirehe district on June 2 sensitised students of Ecole Scolaire Rusumo on crime prevention and dangers of drug abuse.
The District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO), Assistant Inspector of Police Emmanuel Ndagijimana urged students to refrain from acts of consuming drugs like cannabis, Kanyanga, chief waragi and other locally brewed illicit beer.
He highlighted unwanted pregnancies, school drop-outs, assault, and theft as among the effects of drug abuse.
AIP Ndagijimana appealed to the students and staff to fight crimes in their school, surrounding and in their communities and report those involved in time.
Etienne Ngirinshuti, school head teacher thanked Rwanda National Police for the lecture to guide the youngsters.
Clementine Uwineza, a senior two student said: “From now on I will be sensitizing my colleagues and in my community on the dangers of drug abuse."
Another student Gaspard Munyampundu said,” One cannot achieve anything when they are addicted to drugs. We have to fight it because those affected are out fellow youth, which we can't allow to continue,"
