Ecole Costa Hanika in anti-crime campaign

Costa Hanika secondary school in Busasamana sector of Nyanza district in partnership with Rwanda National Police organised an awareness campaign in the school on May 8 to sensitize students on fighting and preventing crimes.

Costa Hanika is one of the about 600 schools in the country with anti-crime clubs.

Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Védaste Ruzigana thanked the school for having crime prevention among their co-curricular activities.

He explained to students on the types of drugs and the dangers associated with its consumption which include dropping out of school, unwanted pregnancies and early parenthood and forcing them into other criminal acts like theft.

"Drug addicts cannot think straight ,d controls them. It influences an addict towards a wrong direction," AIP Ruzigana told the students.

The student and the school administration also pledged continue the awareness programme against crimes in the school and in the nearby communities.

“As usual,I have to keep my body free from drugs  to be more healthy and make my brain fresh enough to study properly and be the person I dream of becoming,” one of the students said.

The student added, “we have to walk the talk as future leaders by saying no to anything that can shut the door to our dreams by even reporting those involved in drug abuse and other criminal acts."

The school head-teacher,Vincent Rudasingwa commened Rwanda National Police (RNP) for the continued awareness in order to nurture focused future leaders and pledged that the school will continue the campaign
