Police in Rulindo District on December 16 arrested two men found in possession of 5000 pellets of cannabis.
The Northern Region Police Spokesperson, Supt. of Police (SP), Christopher Semuhungu, identified the suspects as Vincent Bazimaziki, 31, and Ezekias Mvunabandi, 37, who were arrested at a Police check point in Mukoto cell of Bushoke sector at around 10 pm in the night.
The two suspects were riding on motorcycle TVS type, registration number RC 964 J and are currently held at Rulindo Police Station as Police carries out further investigation into the matter.
“Drug dealing is an illegal business and in additional and there is no single day that passes without Police sensitizing the public about the dangers associated with this trade," SP Semuhungu said.
He said cannabis like any other illegal drug fuels crimes like assault, theft, rape, and defilement and homicide – and urged the residents in Rulindo to stand firm against the illegal activity and report to security organs those who deal in drugs in their community.
Police has conducted several campaigns against drug abuse throughout the country – which has contributed to such cases falling by 2.5 percent this year compared to last year.
