Members of District Administration Security Support Organ (DASSO) will make a difference in society if they maintain a high level of discipline and ensure the provision of high quality services to the public.
The message was delivered by Minister of Local Government, Francis Kaboneka, during a meeting held in Kigali with 90 DASSO members coming from all the 30 districts.
The meeting was also graced with police officials – and it aimed at discussing challenges faced by DASSO members in their daily operations and finding solutions.
“You must earn the trust of citizens by behaving professionally and with high levels of discipline. You should not tolerate any colleague of yours who is disrespectful to the public, or tolerates indiscipline such as drunkenness,” Kaboneka told the DASSOs at the meeting.
“Important as well, you must cooperate with Police as much as possible. Remember that information is power; and how you utilise it is very important. Always share the information you have with police in order to partner in overcoming crime.”
The Coordinator of DASSO, Chief Superintendent of Police Sam Rumanzi, reminded the members that they have a well defined role in maintaining peace and security in communities, and must use their knowledge to sensitize the public about community policing.
“All of you are members of different communities, and you understand well the challenges that people face, as well as the habitual wrongdoers. Therefore, be strong and act with justice by reporting criminals and maintaining a respectable code of conduct,” he said.
DASSO is under the direct supervision of the ministry of local government and was established by government under Law Nº 87/2013 of 11/09/2013.
There are currently 2157 DASSO members operating countrywide.
Part of their mandate is to support district authorities to enforce security, to collaborate with other organs to ensure public order.
