Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Administration and Personnel, DCG Jeanne Chantal Ujeneza, on Monday, August 10, briefed 160 police officers preparing to deploy to South Sudan for the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

The briefing was held at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru, ahead of the officers’ deployment to Malakal, Upper Nile State, where they will replace a contingent that has completed a one-year deployment.

DCG Ujeneza reminded the officers that they will represent Rwanda and urged them to uphold professionalism, discipline and teamwork, while respecting the culture of the people they will serve and work with.

“You are going on a mission on behalf of your country, and you must demonstrate professionalism, which Rwanda is known for, particularly in peacekeeping missions. Work well with your colleagues and respect the culture of the people you will protect and those you will work with. Maintain discipline, as it will help you effectively fulfil the responsibilities entrusted to you,” DIGP Ujeneza said.

She also urged them to remain prepared and committed to their responsibilities despite the different operating environment they will encounter.

“Wherever you will serve and whatever duties you will perform, you must always demonstrate that you are prepared and capable because you have been well trained. Represent Rwanda as good ambassadors through your conduct and character, reflecting the values of Rwandans,” she said.

The 160-officer contingent, known as RWAFPU1-11 and commanded by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Steven Muhizi, will serve under UNMISS as part of Rwanda’s continued contribution to international peacekeeping efforts.
