The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Administration and Personnel, Juvenal Marizamunda has urged residents of Ngororero District to be driven by the sense of security saying Rwanda has achieved a lot by putting its people’s safety at the helm.
He also challenged them to ensure that what has been achieved in different sectors are sustained and aim at achieving even more.
The Deputy Police chief who was flanked by the District Mayor, Godefroid Ndayambaje and several senior police officers made the remarks yesterday in Ngororero Sector of Ngororero District while addressing hundreds of residents during an outreach programme.
During the meeting, Mayor Ndayambaje highlighted a number of social development initiatives where police partnered with residents saying that; “During the Police Week, Rwanda National Police offered support in different sectors that was valued at Rwf11million.”
“During that period, RNP connected 117 households with solar power in Sovu Sector; paid Mutuelle de Sante (Universal Medical Insurance) for 33 families; constructed 4500 latrines, renovated roads and bridges and several other activities. This support has tremendously improved the welfare of the people and the trickledown effect is that crime rates have also gone down tremendously,” said Mayor Ndayambaje.

In his address to residents, DIGP Marizamunda said; “We all understand well that a lot is achieved where there is security and this is how Rwandans have managed to achieve a lot. We need to all have the sense of security, ensure we collectively preserve and sustain what we have achieved and work even harder to achieve more.”
He added on that since there can not be a policeman in every single spot, RNP advances community policing to ensure that every Rwandan’s security is assured.
During the event, DIGP Marizamunda awarded ‘Ikirenga cy'Intore’ cultural dance troupe that emerged the best group in crime prevention art performance. The group was given an assortment of equipment used in cultural dance.
The head of the group, Marie Claire Mukeshimana thanked RNP for the donations saying that her club is committed to public safety.
