DASSO welcomes 391 new members

The District Administrative Security Support Organ (DASSO) has gained 391 new members, who completed training on Thursday, August 14, at the Police Training School (PTS) Gishari in Rwamagana District.

The 8th intake include 135 females. They are from the six districts of Nyarugenge, Kicukiro, Gasabo, Rwamagana, nyagatare and Rusizi.

The 14-week DASSO course is designed to equip them with the skills and knowledge required to support administrative and local security operations.

Presiding over the pass-out, the Minister of Local Government, Dominique Habimana underscored the importance of security in Rwanda’s transformation journey.

“The historical journey our country has gone through has taught us to always prioritize security,” he said. “Over the past 30 years, Rwandans have worked hand-in-hand, which has made our country a model of resilience and development. The security sector played a major role in reaching this milestone.”

The Minister highlighted the government's commitment to building DASSO’s capacity through continued training.

“DASSO has since its creation in 2013, grown significantly, which is why we remain committed to doing everything possible to provide the necessary capacity, training, and equipping them to support administrative security and development," Minister Habimana said.

The Minister also called on the new DASSO personnel to serve with integrity.

“Rwandans have high expectations from you. You are joining more experienced colleagues in this duty. Let your conduct be marked by discipline, professionalism, commitment, integrity, teamwork, honesty, and a deep sense of pride for your country and the people you serve.”

He further urged them to support local governments and communities.

“Work together with local leaders and citizens to achieve targets such as performance contracts (imihigo) set at various levels. Let the citizen remain at the center of all your actions, as this is one of the key pillars on which the governance of our country is built.”

Commissioner of Police (CP) Robert Niyonshuti, the Commandant of PTS, said that during the 14 weeks, trainees covered essential programmes that provided them with knowledge, skills, and proper conduct to help them fulfill their responsibilities effectively.

These include DASSO organization and functions, ethics and code of conduct, respect for Human Rights, martial arts, drills and duties, First Aid, community policing, and broader understanding of their role in supporting national development and the well-being of the people.
