Members of the District Administration Security Support Organ (DASSO) in Kamonyi District have been urged to enhance law enforcement and forge a closer partnership with Rwanda National Police (RNP), the general public and other security organs in a bid to ensure crime prevention.
The call was made during a meeting held on August 20, which brought together over 80 participants and police officers operating in the district.
Speaking at the meeting, the District Police Commander, CIP Marcel Kalisa reminded the DASSO personnel of their responsibilities of crime prevention, which mainly include providing timely information, as well as apprehending suspects in accordance with their mandate, and taking them to police as means of having a crime-free society.
"Try to know the people in communities you operate in, if there are those who are having family wrangles, always inform authorities before they turn into crimes,” CIP Kalisa told DASSO personnel.
The District Police Commander also gave a detailed lecture on effects of drug abuse and told DASSO to champion the fight against drug abuse.
"Drug abuse is a security threat that has enormous effects on lives of the consumers and the wellbeing of the communities. To eliminate this vice, we all have to work together,” he said.
He reminded them that their responsibilities of enforcing security and ensuring public order in the society remains a priority.
Kamonyi District Mayor, Jack Rutsinga, expressed gratitude towards police for its steadfast professionalism and commended the existing relationship between RNP and local authorities, which has helped to ensure human security.
“We should also intensify our neighborhood watch programme as a measure of crime prevention. As DASSO, you should work hard and ensure that citizens trust you with information. Do not get caught in drunkenness or violence, which will destroy the image of DASSO, but always conduct yourselves in an appropriate and professional manner,” he said.
