The National Coordinator of the District Administration Security Support Organ (DASSO) Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Sam Rumanzi has called upon the administrative officers to uphold maximum discipline while executing their daily duties.
CSP Rumanzi made the call on October 20, during a meeting with 86 DASSO members operating in Bugesera District.
The meeting focused on reviewing their performance and how to overcome the challenges affecting their performance.
“Your contribution to security in your communities is of great importance, and your impact is highly appreciated. However, for you to execute your responsibilities effectively, you must maintain maximum discipline, that way the public will keep faith and trust in what you do,” said CSP Rumanzi.
He went on to urge the administrative security officers to desist from taking or soliciting bribes and drunkenness saying that such practices depict negative attitudes towards their personality and services, undermine the overall mandate of DASSO, and a criminal act in nature.
He pointed out that they should uphold the image of the institution through professionalism.
“You must bear in mind that whatever you do reflects the image of DASSO and therefore being professional is paramount.”
He encouraged them to always strive for what can improve their performances.
Rumanzi reminded the members that they have a well defined role in maintaining peace and security in communities, and must use their knowledge to sensitize the public about community policing.
“You understand well the challenges that people face, as well as the habitual wrongdoers, you should work on ironing this out of the communities. Therefore, be strong and act with fairness by reporting wrongdoers and maintaining a respectable code of conduct,” he said.
The Bugesera vice Mayor in Charge of Economic affairs, Julius Rukondo, also told DASSO officers to champion the fight against graft.
“You monitor different movements in the district, at some point you are closer to the people, you have the ability to lead the campaign against corruption,” said Rukundo.
He reminded them that there are refugees coming from Burundi and urged them to facilitate them to go to transit camps.
At the end of the meeting, members of DASSO pledged to take the lectures seriously, improve on their community outreach, discipline and fighting crimes.
