Criminal Investigation course students visit Kigali Forensic Laboratory

The forty officer students attending the ‘Professional Criminal Investigation’ course at the CID school in Musanze District have started their internal tours to link theory with practical investigation techniques.

The students visited Kigali Forensic Laboratory (KFL) on Monday October 19 where they were introduced to steps taken to differentiate between genuine and forged documents, signatures and how to collect finger and footprints from the crime scene.

According to Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Modeste Bisangwa, the head of the course, this is a “practical forensic awareness” which is “crucial” for the students.

“The course is designed in two parts; the theory part where they are introduced to varied disciplines in professional criminal investigations, and the practical part where they link the theory to practical,” said CIP Bisangwa.

The maiden intake that lasts for six months exhausts areas of applied, specific and advanced criminal investigations, introduction to forensic investigations, evidence collection and law, among others.

Training falls under capacity building, which is one of the priorities of Rwanda National Police.
