Kirehe District Police Commander (DPC) Senior Superintendent (SP) James Rutaremera, has told residents that crime prevention is a responsibility not only for Police and other security agencies, but also for all citizens of a country.
The District Police Commander made the remarks early this week while speaking to hundreds of residents of Nyabitare Cell of Nyarubuye Sector in Kirehe District.
The meeting was in line with Rwanda National Police’s ongoing efforts to sensitize and mobilize residents to play a pivotal role in crime prevention through mainly embracing Community Policing philosophy.
DPC Ruraremera called upon residents to have ownership in community safety by sharing timely information that lead to arrest of suspected criminals.
“The partnership between security agencies and members of the general public is so important, and has significantly contributed to remarkable peace and security in the country - an aspect which has branded Rwanda as being one the few world’s safest countries,” he said.
On this point, the DPC urged residents to always step out courageously and report all security related including trafficking of narcotic drugs, theft among others.
“Most narcotic drugs mainly cannabis are sneaked into the country and trafficked to other places of the country through our District,” he said as he alerted residents to always share information on those suspected to be involved.
“Narcotic drugs pose a serious security threat in communities but the substances also have multiple negative effects on life, which include mental disabilities.” Ruraremera added.
Anselme Musonera, the Executive secretary of Nyarubuye Sector, thanked Police’s continued awareness campaigns to change mind set of residents and to have them involved in government different government programmes particularly security.
He reminded residents that, security is a basis for sustainable development for the country in general and family improved welfare in particular
