Crime preventers in Kicukiro District have been called upon to be more active to solve community security challenges.
They were also urged to always be closer to communities and be fast to share timely information about what could be affecting them to reinforce the ideal of prevention rather than responding to consequences of crime.
Mayor Ndamage who presided over the Meeting said there are markets available for all those operating their businesses on streets, which is illegal and urged them to join the well established places for doing their business.
He commended Rwanda National Police for ensuring law and order, which has seen majority drug dealers and other suspected criminals arrested.
"You equally have a role to ensure safety and security in communities where you are stationed, in partnership with other security organs, so whatever you do should depict your mandates,” Ndamage told participants.
He also asked them to fight illegal construction of houses in communities, saying that such facilities are built with substandard materials which can also be a source of insecurity when they collapse
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Elias Mwesigye, Regional Police Commander (RPC-Central) who attended the meeting also appealed to crime preventers at the district security meeting last week to be vigilant in their role of crime prevention.
