During intensified operations against narcotic drugs, on Sunday, police intercepted a mother and her son in Musanze District who are said to be “major drug dealers.”
Donatha Mukakimenyi and her son Jean de Dieu Hategekimana alias Bob were intercepted in Masoro Village, Kivumu Cell in Kimonyi Sector with 4, 340 pellets of cannabis.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Alexis Rugigana, the Police spokesperson for the Northern region said that in response to reliable information, Police went to the house of Mukakimenyi where she was found with 3,451 rolls of cannabis.
“Mukakimenyi’s son—Hategekimana—was at the time delivering other 889 pellets of cannabis to her mother when he managed to run away after noticing the Police, abandoning the narcotics,” CIP Rugigana said.
He observed that Mukakimenyi and Hategekimana are suspected to be major dealers in Musanze supplying different cannabis retailers.
Another drug dealer identified as Protogene Siborurema was arrested the same day in Mbuye Sector, Ruhango District with 126 pellets of cannabis.
The narcotics were recovered in Siborurema’s kitchen; it is the third time he’s been arrested in such drug-related crimes.
“These were coordinated Police operations based on credible information we get from the public on major drug dealers,” the spokesperson said.
Rwanda National Police has strengthened operations to break chains of supply and bring dealers to justice, and working with different stakeholders to raise awareness against the vice.
