Rwanda National Police (RNP) reached out to over 150 Community Policing Committees (CPCs) in Masaka Sector, Kicukiro District with a sensitization message to enhance their crime prevention activities in order to sustain security in the area.

During the one-day seminar on March 17, Police officers noted that security shouldn’t be left to RNP alone but to the community, which should act vigilantly by providing timely information to Police in order to avert crime.

“We all want total security to ensure that every Rwandan and their property is protected. We must redouble our efforts and further tighten night patrols and give no space to criminals,” the DCLO of Kicukiro, IP Hamdun Twizeyimana, told the CPCs.

As a way to further maintain security in Kicukiro and the country in general, IP Twizeyimana urged the participants to identify possible criminals, analyze and report all suspicious activities that may cause insecurity.

One of the participant CPCs, Desire Rugaju, commended RNP for imparting more skills trainings to CPCs to enable them carry out their activities more efficiently.

At the same time, you should endeavor to cooperate with Police in a timely manner through the provision of any information that will help Police to combat crimes.

“Police has enabled us to work efficiently in sustaining the peace of our community. We should work together and avoid indulging in activities like drunkenness which affect our work,” he said.

RNP collaborates with CPCs and other security organs to ensure that security prevails within their communities.

Community policing has gained momentum in recent years as RNP and community leaders search for more effective ways to promote public safety.

About 140,000 members of CPCs have so far been trained across the country.
