Contrabands seized in separate police operations

Separate police operations targeting drug traffickers or dealers conducted separately in the districts of Rusizi, Nyarugenge, Gicumbi and Musanze arrested six suspected drug dealers.

The suspects were found with contrabands worth about Rwf6 million.

Majority quantities of illicit gin were seized in Muhoza Sector in Musanze where contrabands worth Rwf5.6 million were seized from a renowned drug dealer.

The contrabands were in different brands including Blue sky, chase waragi, living waragi, host waragi, coffee spirit, African gin and other locally made illicit brew.

Jean Pierre Manzi, the executive secretary of Muhoza sector, while speaking at the exercise to dispose of the substances, asked hundreds of residents who turned up, not to keep silent or hide drug dealers.

“All these substances that we have poured today are narcotics, and selling or consuming them is unlawful and punishable by the law,” Manzi told the residents.

Chief Inspector of Police (ClP) Augustin Habimana thanked the residents, who provided information that led to the seizure of the substances.

“Rwanda National Police continues to count on your partnership in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse; report people in your communities who deal in these drugs,” CIP Habimana said.

Meanwhile, suspects arrested in these separate operations are detained at police stations in areas where they were arrested.

Breaking chains of illicit drugs supply and the market falls under the top priorities of Rwanda National Police.
