Conman arrested in Ngoma

A suspected conman was arrested by the Police on May 4, in Rurenge cell, Murama Sector in Ngoma District.

The 35-year old suspect, Steven Rwagasore was arrested after he defrauded a resident of Rwf100, 000. He is a resident of the neighboring sector of Mushikiri in Kirehe District.

Rwagasore had made the victim believe that he had products to make money, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, the Police spokesperson for the Eastern region, said.

On April 1, CIP Twizeyimana said, Rwagasore went to Murama Sector in Ngoma District and made a resident identified as Fidele Nkurunziza, believe that he had products to double any amount of money given to him.

“The victim fell in the trap and gave him Rwf100, 000 with hope that he would get Rwf200, 000. Rwagasore resurfaced again in Murama on May 4, when Nkurunziza decided to bring the matter to the Police in the sector, and the suspect was arrested for the alleged crime,” CIP Twizeyimana said.

“Following his arrest, more people from the sectors of Murama and Mushikiri have come forward saying that they were also defrauded by the same person,” he added.

The spokesperson advised the public against falling prey to such tricks and urged them to always report people, who attempt to fleece them of their valuables.

Fraud, deception, obtaining another person’s property by use of false names or qualifications is punishable with an imprisonment term of two to three years and a fine of between Rwf3 million and Rwf5 million, as stipulated under article 174 of the penal code.
