Community Policing Committees urged to foster lawfulness

The Community Policing Committees (CPCs) should perform their role diligently and ensure public safety by  providing timely information to Police in order to facilitate crime prevention.

The message was delivered in Bugesera District, Ruhuha Sector, during a sensitization seminar on May 11, which attracted over 120 CPCs operating in the district, residents, local leaders, among others.

“CPC members must never forget that their communities look up to them to help in crime prevention. Therefore, they should be exemplary and efficient at all times,” the Executive Secretary of Ruhuha Sector, Innocent Mushenyi, said.

“You should always be on the side of residents and avoid collaborating with criminals. Fight against corruption at all times and work with Police to overcome unlawfulness wherever it occurs.”

The District Community Liaison Officer of Bugesera, Assistant Inspector of Police Cyprian Uwitonze, commended the role of CPCs in maintaining security in communities and asked them to work even harder to keep criminals in check.

“Always reach out to your fellow residents and sensitize them about crimes such as drug abuse, human trafficking, and remind the youth to concentrate on their education rather than participate in criminality,” he said.

“Endeavor to cooperate with Police in a timely manner through the provision of any information that will help Police to combat crimes.”

Community policing has gained momentum in addressing domestic crimes, as RNP and community leaders search for more effective ways to promote public safety.

CPCs are given periodic training to upgrade their skills amd knowledge in crime awareness, fight and prevention.
