Members of Community Policing Committees (CPCs) in Kirehe District have been urged to be more efficient in responding to incidences of crime in order to facilitate safety and peace in their communities.
The Vice Mayor in charge of economic affairs in Kirehe, Jean de Dieu Tihabyona, made the call on March 3 while briefing over 130 members of CPCs in the district.
The meeting was also attended by local leaders and members of District Administration Security Support Organ (DASSO).
“The work of community policing committees has been beneficial in crime prevention and is rooted in partnership with police that emphasizes the importance of citizen involvement. Continue to serve in this capacity as well as sensitize residents on turning back crime,” Tihabyona said.
Assistant Inspector of Police, Gahigi Harelimana, the District Community Liaison Officer, urged the members improve their communication to report issues in time and consolidate community relations that foster peace.
“Neighborhood watch is effective if the community trusts and believes that you can help them to overcome their challenges. You should work faster in delivering timely information to Police in order to solve or prevent a crime,” he said.
Community Policing Committees reignite policing activities and to reinforce the community policing concept.
