Community Policing Commitees complete training on Gender Based Violence

Police Officers from Southern Province and Community Policing Commettees in Muhanga District concluded a  training exercise  on gender based violence.

The training was meant to equip participants with skills to play role in crime prevention.

Participants also trained on the relationship between illicite drugs other crimes and HIV/AIDS.

Training on gender based violence focused on tge nature of the crime and how to prevent it.

Patrick Gatwaza, the Vice Mayor in charge of good governance in Muhanga District officiated at the closing ceremony. He thanked the Police for organising and facilitating the training exercise.

He requested participants, especially memebers of the community policing committees to utilise the skills in preventing GBV crimes in the area.

He also called upon participants  to report suspected criminals im time.

Gatwaza also urged participants to fight drug abuse, a crime that has become rampant in the district and the main cause of other crimes.

The Director of Commmunity Policing at Rwanda National police, Superintendent Sam Rumanzi, urged participants to counsel and sensitise families on gender based violence regularly.

The exercise was attended by 50 Police Officers and 12 representatives of community policing committees from all sectors that make up Muhanga District.
