The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Emmanuel K. Gasana has called on officers charged with harnessing Police-community partnership to demonstrate a high level of discipline and professionalism in order to efficiently exercise their duties.
IGP Gasana made the call on 10, December, while officiating a consultative meeting of 40 District and Community Liaison Officers (DCLOs and CLOs) at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) Headquarters.
“Understand the Policing model and link it to RNP’s mission. Community policing is a people-centered service and must be delivered and perceived with an attitude of ownership,” he said.
Community Policing is one of the RNP ten priority areas to involve the general public in responding and solving security issues in their localities and and actively take part in community development programme
He reiterated the need to actively involve residents in policing and social development programs.
“You should devise crime prevention awareness campaigns and participate in promoting hygiene and sanitation to contribute to the health of our citizens.”
The meeting was also attended by senior officers including Commissioner of Police Cyprien Gatete, CP Bruce Munyambo and Commissioner for Community Policing, ACP Damas Gatare.
