Community gatherings in Bugesera, Kirehe discuss strengthening security

Separate community gatherings in Kirehe and Busegera district held on Tuesday discussed measured on how to reinforce the existing community policing mechanisms to further fight and prevent crimes, and promote security.

In line with human security, residents also discussed issues related to joining efforts against drug trafficking and abuse, sanitation and hygiene, medical insurance, addressing domestic conflicts as well as school dropouts and parental care as well teaching Rwandan values to children.

The separate meetings were also attended by Police and other security organs, and local leaders.

In Kirehe, at least 55 out of 64 issues raised by residents including those related to domestic conflicts, were addressed and some conflicting families and couples reconciled and reunited.

On the issue of school dropouts, residents resolved to report parents, who don’t send their children to school or people who involve minors in child labour activities.

In Bugesera, residents of Juru Sector also set the same community policing and development design to reinforce the national security and development agenda.

The vice mayor of Bugesera in charge of Social Affairs, Pricilla Uwiragiye urged the residents to own and take lead in ensuring their own security, but also create impact in the implementation of the government community development programmes.

“Reporting a crime or a criminal, participating in Umuganda, reporting bad services or people who offer or solicit bribes derives from loving your country and endeavoring to fight anything that can tarnish its image and impede development and wellbeing of other people,” Uwiragiye told hundreds of residents of Juru.

She emphasized the need for concerted efforts to fight high impact crimes like illicit drugs and corruption.

She further called for effectiveness and partnership between local leaders, security organs and the people in addressing issues facing the people, but reminded the population to “say no to bad services.”
