Communities urged to tighten community policing

Members of Community Policing Committees (CPCs) and District Administrative Security Support Organ (DASSO), met with leaders and residents of Kabacuzi sector of Muhanga District to discuss ways in which to tighten community policing in order to efficiently maintain law and order in the community.

Laurent Rurangwa, the Executive Secretary of Kabacuzi, appealed to the participants, especially local leaders to work closely with the population in curbing lawlessness in the area.

“Leaders must be exemplary to the people they lead if they are to perform their duties efficiently. It is in this spirit that they need to always be the ambassadors of safety and security,” Rurangwa said.

“They should not tolerate wrongdoing and always urge their community to work with Police and other security organs in maintaining the peace.”

The District Community Liaison Officer, IP Clever Kayihura, told participants that crimes including assault, theft and gender-based-violence are fueled by consumption of drugs or drunkenness and urged the community to work together for development.

He also called for continued collaboration between the community and security organs to enhance and maintain rule of law.
