The Mayor of Gisagara District Joreme Rutaburingoga has rallied hundreds of commercial motorcyclists in the district to join the anti-crime drive in a bid to ensure public safety.
The call was made recently during a meeting held between local authorities and commercial motorcyclists belonging to KODUAGI cooperative.
He mayor observed some motorcyclists facilitate criminality by transporting wrongdoers and ferrying illegal goods.
“You should be good partners in crime prevention by not engaging or facilitating criminals who want to exploit your services for burglary, drug trafficking, smuggling and other crimes,” he said
He also urged them to take part in development activities, and also respect traffic rules to prevent road carnage.
In a related development, the District Police Commander of Kamonyi, Senior Supt. Eric Kanyabuganza also urged commercial motorcyclists there to collaborate with Police to weed-out criminals by sharing timely information for investigations to be promptly conducted to thwart crimes or arrest criminals.

He called for vigilance against criminality by playing a role to ensure effectiveness of night patrols and enhance neighborhood.
He also cautioned them against violating traffic regulations and guidelines, which results into accidents and loss of lives.
Majority accidents are either caused or involve motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians, according to the traffic department.
