Commercial motorcycle operators warned against bad maneuvers

Commercial motorcycle operators have been warned against dangerous riding behaviors like bad maneuvers which lead to road accidents.

Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Butera, Commissioner for Operations in Rwanda National Police made sounded the caution on August 21 in Muhanga District where the ongoing road safety month was held.

“You have to drive differently, slow down, pay attention and responsibly. You should have a human heart in your operation,” CP Butera told hundred of motorcyclists, who turned up for the awareness exercise.

“All of us need to live and to have a better life. You should not put our lives at stake. A good and experienced driver is the one who abides by traffic rules, values his life and that of other road users,” he added.

He also called upon all road users to heed the recent call by President Paul Kagame of being responsible citizens to fight and prevent human trafficking and road accidents by reporting those involved and those breaching traffic rules respectively.

CP Butera also appealed everyone to fight sell of alcoholic beverages to minors, which is illegal and punishable by the law.

“Your role in preventing these illegal acts of selling giving alcohol to under-aged people is vital. It’s important that we join hands to put this to an end and groom a focused but not wasted generation,” he noted.

Emmanuel Ndikumana, one of the motorcyclists in Muhanga also noted that there are some individuals in their profession that continue to tarnish their image.

“This is a business that supports our families. Whatever character or decision we take should be in the interest of our dependants. If we drive carelessly and involve or cause an accident, we will also be making our children, parents and others to safer,” Ndikumana, who urged colleagues to follow such advises, said.

The exercise was also attended by Ambassador Valens Munyabagisha, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Internal Security and other senior officers and local leaders.
