Champions Police end handball season in style

They clinched the national handball league title with one match to the end of the season, but Police Handball Club made sure that they also claim the three remaining points.

The law enforcers walloped University of Rwanda-College of Arts and Social Sciences (UR-CASS) 49-15 in their season last match played on October 25 in Huye.

The win made sure that the champions finished the season with 46 points having lost only one match.

Police, who beat Gicumbi 23-21 a fortnight ago when they registered enough points to claim this season’s trophy, will be given their trophy on November 8.

On the same day when they will be officially crowned champions, there will also be a tournament between the top four clubs.

Apparently, the tournament will bring together Police, APR, Gicumbi and Kigoma.

Should Police win it, it will be their fifth trophy in their cabin this season alone after also winning the Labour Day, Liberation and Memorial cups.

Police Handball Club coach, AIP Antoine Ntabanganyimana believes his side has all it takes to also claim the fifth trophy.

“We have good and determined players and we will also show the same spirit when that day comes. We have had a fantastic season and we want to keep it clean,” AIP Ntabanganyimana said.
