Police in Nyagatare seized four cartons of Zebra waragi, an illegal gin, which was being trafficked into the country.
The illicit gin was confiscated on June 22, in Mitatayo cell of Matimba sector.
Police is still searching for a cyclist said to have trafficked the illegal gin into the country through an illegal border in Nyagatare.
Senior superintendent Benoit Nsengiyumva, Police spokesperson for the Eastern region warned cyclists, commercial motorcycle operators and commuter taxi drivers against aiding and transporting illegal luggage.
It is said that drug dealers connive with drivers of transit and public vehicles and motorcyclists to transport their illegal goods to specified destinations.
SSP Nsengiyumva, however, said most of those connected to this illegal business have been arrested, warning that even the few remaining will be apprehended unless they denounce it.
“Fighting trade and consumption of such illicit drugs remains among our top priorities. We will not lessen until all those involved are apprehended,” SSP Nsengiyumva said.
“Our target is to have a society that is free of illicit drugs and the general public’s role in this campaign is paramount to report those individuals that still involved,” he added.
