The campaign against corruption continued in the Northern Province on June 5, where it was conducted concurrently in all the districts.
It is part of the ongoing Police Week to mark the 2018 Rwanda National Police (RNP) anniversary.
The fourth week of the RNP anniversary activities brings together other entities such as the Ombudsman Office, prosecution, Rwanda Investigations Bureau, Rwanda Governance Board and Transparency International Rwanda, to further attempt to bring on board everyone to report any form of corruption in their communities and respective offices.
The campaign in the Northern region brought together security organs, representatives of institutions charged with fighting corruption, local leaders and residents to discuss ways and means of dealing with the high impact crime.
The Police spokesperson for the Northern region, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, said that the concurrent awareness activities attracted a big number of people.
“People were explained on various types of corruption, methods used, effects of corruption on their wellbeing and service delivery, and how it affects the country economy and development,” CIP Twizeyimana said.
Article 641 of the penal code stipulates that, any person who explicitly or implicitly offers, proposes directly or indirectly a gift or any other illegal benefit, to a person in charge of a service, mission or mandate or who promises it in order to render a service or to refrain from carrying out any usual duties, shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of more than five to seven years and a fine of twice to ten times the value of what was offered in bribes.
