Rwanda National Police (RNP) has called upon the business community come together in support of community policing and overcome crimes such as burglary, human trafficking, drug abuse and the like.
In a meeting with over 400 local business persons in Burera District, on February 12, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Damas Gatare, the Commissioner for Community Policing, urged them to build relations with the police through information sharing on suspects that undermine the security and safety of people and property.
“Clear and efficient communication among residents and the police can make everyone's crime-fighting efforts more effective in ensuring long lasting peace. Such a partnership is essential in cracking down on the most problematic suspects and issues that affect the performance of the economy,” he said.
“If you have seen signs of drug dealing, human trafficking or have seen signs that a crime si likely to happen, immediately alert Police so that we can conduct thorough investigation and protect our country and economy.”
One of the business persons, Gaza Bobe Benjamin, commended Police for being professional and approachable, and urged his counterparts to be watchful against any activities that may disrupt the economy.
