Business community in Kimisagara acquires firefighting skills

The Rwanda National Police (RNP) Fire and Rescue Unit, on August 13, provided firefighting skills to over one hundred  retailers residents in Kimisagara sector of Nyarugenge district.

The beneficiaries also included mechanics, owners of restaurants, hotels and managers of petrol stations.

The practical exercise was held at Kimisagara youth centre.

Participants were given skills in the the use of fire extinguisher, dry sand and water.

“Many people don't know how to use even easiest things like sand, water and even those operating in buildings with fire extinguishers actually don't know how to use them in case of fire outbreak. It is a privilege to acquire such skills," One of the trainees, Peter Ngendahimana of Family Group Garage, said.

The executive secretary of Kimisagara sector, Jean Marie Nkurunziza also said it's important the business community take lead in acquiring such skills to take precaution and secure their businesses.

Assistant Commissioner of  Police (ACP) Elias Mwesigye, the Commanding Officer for the RNP Fire and Rescue Unit said most fire incidents are due to short circuit and overloading the electric system.

He appealed to them to avoid such acts and always   call the hotlines, 111, 112, or  07888311224, 07888311120 and 0788311335 in case of fire out-break.
