Over 400 youth leaders, who are converging at Nkumba Leadership and Development Centre in Burera District, were on November 12, sensitized on the consequences of human trafficking.
The youth leaders who are from the Eastern and Southern province are in Nkumba Leadership and Development Centre for a 10 a civic education programme.
In his lecture, IGP Gasana said human trafficking is major government concern since it deprives people of their basic rights. He further explained that the vice is linked with gender based violence and related crimes.
He further noted that, victims of human trafficking who are particularly young girls end up in foreign countries for commercial sex and forced labour after being lured by criminals who normally promise to provide them with high paying jobs and scholarship in those countries.
IGP Gasana also briefed the youth on other cross boarder crimes like drug trafficking which he said are a serious security threat not only to one country but also the region and beyond. He however reiterated that, Rwanda National Police has embarked on close partnership with regional Police Organs to fight and prevent cross boarder criminality and thus ensuring regional stability.
IGP Gasana also asked them to strive to be agents of positive change in order to help the country get to its vision.
He appealed to the youth to partner security organs in campaigns against crimes to ensure a crime free society for all.
