Burera: Residents vow to eliminate narcotic drugs

Residents of Ruhunde Sector in Burera District have recommitted to joining the police efforts to fight trafficking, sell and used of narcotics drugs.

During their community meeting recently, the residents observed that illicit drugs remain an issue affecting their community security, and an issue that requires their partnership to address.

This was after they intercepted a drug dealer, who was at the time sneaking illicit gin into the country.

Burera is one of the routes used by traffickers of illicit gin. As a response, residents in all the sectors of Burera formed anti-drugs clubs to take an upper hand in awareness and information sharing with security organs on the dealers.

The Executive Secretary of Ruhunde Sector, Ildephonse Bizimana thanked the residents for their effort to ensure their security.

He also warned those still involved in drug related crimes, adding that such joint efforts between the Police and residents will bring them to justice.

“Avoid illegal businesses to be out of unnecessary troubles including prison sentences and other penalties,” Bizimana advised residents.

Inspector of Police (IP) Jean Baptiste Murego, the commander of Nemba Police Station equally lauded the role of residents in crime prevention particularly drug abuse.

IP Murego singled out drug abuse as a source other criminal activities like assault, rape and defilement and other gender related crimes.
