Burera: Police destroys narcotic drugs worth Rwf32m

Police in Burera District on September 19 destroyed narcotic drugs valued at Rwf 32 million.

The destroyed narcotic drugs include; 2,072 liters of kanyanga, 5,224 boules of cannabis also commonly known as marijuana.

Others are; 10,377 doziness of blue sky, 130 doziness of host waragi, 50 doziness of coffee spirit, 42 doziness of samba waragi, 25 doziness of chief waragi and 12 doziness of choice waragi.

The narcotic drugs were impounded in Burera between mid August and September this year. The destruction activity of the above narcotic drugs took place in Gahunga and Rusarabuye Police Stations; it was attended by students and residents.

Senior Superintendent Félix Rutayisire, the Burera District Police Commander (DPC), said Police managed to seize the narcotic substances in partnership with locals who always availed credible information on suspects.

He said narcotic drugs are sneaked into the country from neighboring countries.

He called upon residents to strengthen the partnership with security organs in order to fight and prevent narcotic drugs which he noted has different health negative effects.

Florence Uwambajemariya, the district’s vice mayor in charge of social affairs, commended Rwanda National Police tireless efforts in the fight against the trade and consumption of narcotic drugs.

She urged residents in the district to embrace the culture of working closely with Police through information sharing to ensure criminals are arrested and brought to book.
