A taxi-moto operator was arrested on Thursday in Gahunga Sector of Burera District in connection with attempting to give a bribe.
Clement Iraguha is accused of trying to offer a bribe of Rwf5000 to a Police officer to prevent legal penalties after he was caught over traffic related offences.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Alexis Rugigana, the Police spokesperson for the Northern region, said: "Traffic Police officers, while on their usual duties, stopped Iraguha, they found that his traffic documents were confiscated in July last year and had not cleared the penalties since then."
Traffic penalties are supposed to be cleared within three working days
"Iraguha, in an attempt to prevent other penalties, tried to seduce the officer with a bribe of Rwf5000, he was immediately taken into custody over the crime," he added.
He warned against such criminal tendencies and advised them to instead "do the right thing and be ready to face the consequences when you act contrary."
